It’s November already?! “How is this possible?!” you may ask. Suddenly the leaves are golden and silently pirouetting through the air. Perhaps the slippage of days can be attributed to getting caught up in the crazy flow of life: Those types of days where the current of life is preposterously strong and you must paddle against the wild tides to get to your next meeting and/or ninja class. With the impending chaos of the holidays within view, let’s dedicate these next few weeks to give thanks for the ability to row our life boats and for all of the wonderful events and activities that have us paddling so profusely. Let’s take a step back and breathe. And breathe again. I am grateful that I am able to share my thoughts with you, Dear Reader, and that I am able to compose this blog and make this suggestion:
Take this month to honor yourself – even if it’s a simple as a quiet cup of coffee in the mornings while counting your blessings. When we are calm and open, it’s amazing how time seems to slow just a bit. When is the last time you took a bubble bath? When was your last excursion to a yoga class to reclaim your center or a trail run adventure? Once your Celebration of Self gets going, check out these sites that allow you to give back. Not only through donations, but through volunteering – should that be your strength.
This organization’s mission is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the Nation’s Capital by building affordable, energy and resource-efficient homes for people in need. Also see similar organizations listed here that are in need of donations.
Donate food or time to this program that creates long-term solutions to the interconnectedness problems of poverty, hunger and homelessness through job training, meal distribution and supporting systems.
Find stores and/or ways to donate items, funds, cars or volunteer hours to this program that provides job training services to people with disadvantages and disabilities.
We can make a huge difference in our own lives as well as the lives of others when we take the time to truly appreciate all we have and give back.
