Oh, June! After a long winter, this warm weather we have been having is most welcome. As James Whitcomb Riley so wonderfully said:
“Then let us, one and all, be contented with our lot; the June is here this morning, and the sun is shining hot; Oh! Let us fill our hearts up with the glory of the day,
And banish every doubt and care and sorrow far away.”
The month of June contains many days of celebration and awareness and Riley’s poem truly encompasses the joy of Spring. We open our windows, hide our snow shovels and bulky coats far, far from view and spend more time in the lush outdoors. Let our hearts fill up with the glory of the day, indeed!
June contains National Safety Month – where we maybe keep our eyes on the road and off of our phones more frequently. We celebrate cancer survivors, our oceans and our environment. In Reston we also celebrate the wonderful Taste of Reston (June 17th-18th) where we are exposed to the magnificent flavors Reston has to offer. This is a month of taking care of ourselves, others and our planet as spring brings about new life. Let’s celebrate by remembering what we are grateful for…and then get an ice cream as milkshakes and ice cream are also celebrated this month. And dare I mention that June also celebrates chocolate cake?!
By the time June 15 rolls around, we will have practiced enough for Smile Power Day!
